Blog to get a job?

What does it take to be successful at blogging and why do people blog?

Some like to blog just to blog and have fun with it. Others blog to make money and then there are the ones that use it as a resume. With the bad economy, blogging to get a job is not a bad idea. The best advice I could give to anyone is, in order to be successful at blogging you have to be passionate about the topic.

I was talking to my sister, who is a stay-at-home mom with 2 kids. She was wondering how she could make a couple extra bucks. I told her she could start a blog and talk about whatever she loves to talk about. For her it could be parenthood, religion or politics or even all three. What a combo, huh. She loved the idea, so we will see what happens.

Most blogs don’t succeed, mainly because people stop blogging. They are usually into it right away, go crazy pushing out blog after blog and it slowly dies off. Another piece of advice is, if you can blog about something and not care about the monetary aspect of it, then you have a great chance to make money with it. That can be said about most businesses.

I read an article on MSN a couple months ago about a lady who could not find a job, like most people in this economy. She started a blog and in three months the job offers started pouring in. It made sense to me, it shows the individual taking the initiative, shows they are passionate about what they are blogging about and it provides much more information than a resume ever will.

When I first jumped into network marketing, I read a bunch of blogs and articles and the first thing that came to my mind was… I wish I could hire this person to do the work for me. So I can see how a hiring manager could think that about a blogger.

I have a friend that works for a software company and when he hires someone he does as much research as possible. He searches LinkedIn and Facebook and also checks to see if the person has a blog. If they do, he reads everything he can and a blog will always put that person ahead of other candidates. As long as its good quality of course.

It is all about thinking outside the box, this will make you stand out from the competition.
